Happy Planet Index (HPI), New Economics Foundation (NEF), 2019
Existing inequalities among people within each country are considered a specific indicator and a relevant part of the national happiness index, developed by the New Economics Foundation (NEF); the so-called Happy Planet Index (HPI).
This project tries to capture the degree of global happiness from the subjective well-being of people, taking into account also the life expectancy, the ecological footprint produced, and the mentioned inequity existing within each country in relation to the first two variables.
The importance of considering HPI alongside traditional measures of development and well-being is justified as follows on the project website: “GDP growth alone does not mean a better life for everyone, especially in countries that are already rich”.
